Preserving America’s Original Technology

Cell phones and cordless telephones rely on electricity to work. If the electricity cuts out and cell phone power goes out, there is no other means to contact the outside world via Facebook, internet, Twitter, etc. UNLESS you have the luxury of a rotary telephone!

This is a novel idea for communication in the 21st century. The phone consists of a bulky base that sits on a table, plugs into a phone jack, and cradles a receiver that attaches to the base with a spiraling cord. For a person to connect with a second party, a rotary dial must be turned by hand a required number of times. There are no push buttons, keys, or display panels. There is no need for electricity, cell tower, or internet connection.

A rotary phone works in all kinds of weather and under all sorts of conditions. It does not qualify as modern technology and has no capacity for updates. It’s just a phone, a means for talking and keeping in touch.

Sometimes less is more. The most I can ask for is a phone I can count on, which in my case is a rotary phone from another century.
